Frequently Asked Questions
Get to know me.
If writing is your hustle, let me take the hassle out of that!
As a trained proofreader and copy editor, it’s my goal to ensure that you publish professional-looking documents that will help build not just your credibility but also your confidence to share them.
Questions about my editing style.
What do you specialize in?
I offer proofreading, copyediting, and line editing services.
Proofreading focuses on polishing stray errors. Copyediting notes clarity and consistency of word choice as well as adherence to style guide.
Line editing looks at the creative use of language and how it is communicated to the reader, involving plenty of stylistic revisions.
For a more in-depth review of the differences between the three, check out my services here.
How do you proofread?
I charge by word count as it ensures that we are both clear on what the fixed price is.
Microsoft Word is my go-to method to proofread, but I’m also comfortable with Google Docs and annotating PDF files.
Aside from white pages, I’ve also worked on spreadsheets, slide presentations, and websites. If you have different methods in mind, I’ll be more than happy to accommodate you.

What is your editorial process?
To ensure that you’re satisfied with the end result of your text, my editing process comprises three steps:
- Submission – I will look over your document and send you a quote and a timeframe within your prescribed deadline. You can also check out my available payment methods and standard turnaround time here.
- Editing – Once we’ve agreed on our terms, I will begin the editing process. To view my proofreading methods, click here.
- Consultation – After I’ve returned your edited document, you may opt to raise questions and clarifications about the editing choices I’ve made. For questions about standard billing, rush jobs and refunds, please read my policies here.
What are your reference manuals?
My frequently used manuals include:
- The Chicago Manual of Style Guide, 17th edition
- Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary
- The Best Punctuation Book, Period
- The Associated Press Stylebook, 49th edition
- Oxford A-Z Grammar
- The Anvil Guide to Research Paper Writing for MLA and APA citations
I work hard to ensure the content matches exactly the style and voice you want to project, so let me know if you have other preferences! I’ll be happy to accommodate you.
Questions about my policies.
Refund/Cancellation policy
I provide a risk-free trial to help you decide whether my skills are up to snuff! With my free taster, you can get 20% of your content proofed by me.
For example, if your project has 10,000 words, I will edit 2,000 of them (at random sections) so you can gauge how I’ll edit the rest of your project — at no charge! Read all about it here.
For this reason, I do not entertain refunds. However, rest assured that throughout the project, we will have constant, professional communication to ensure you are satisfied with the end result.
Consultation period
You can consult with me for up to 14 days after I’ve sent your document back. You may opt to raise questions and clarifications about the editing choices I’ve made.
If your project exceeds 10,000 words, I will provide you with a personalized style sheet explaining my editorial choices.
Standard billing
Invoices for my regular clients will be sent via email on the first of each month.
Once received, all invoices are due within 30 days. Late payments will incur a 10% late fee, calculated from the invoice total. Payments can be made via my prescribed payment methods. If you prefer a different method, please contact me and I will be happy to discuss other arrangements.
New client billing
If you’re new to working with me, I will send you an invoice immediately following the completion of the first job.
Note that for projects exceeding 10,000 words, I require a deposit before delivering the finished product to you via email. Please expect an invoice for each payment plan.
Any work submitted after that will default to standard billing.
